How DealVault verifies coupon codes and finds the best US deals
DealVault is a free deals directory covering 77 retailers across 9 shopping categories in the USA, the UK and Europe. Every offer on the site is one of three things: a promo code you type in at checkout, an automatic sale where the discount is already applied, or a standing perk such as free shipping, cashback or a loyalty reward. This guide explains where those offers come from, how each one is checked before it reaches a store page, how to redeem a code without losing the discount, and when during the US shopping year the deepest markdowns land.
What we list, and what we do not
DealVault lists offers only. We do not sell products, hold stock, take orders or process payments, so we cannot change a price, adjust an order or honour a promotion on a retailer's behalf. When you choose an offer you are sent to the merchant's own website, where the merchant's price, stock, shipping terms, returns policy and final checkout always apply. Our job is the step before that: finding the current promotions, checking them, and keeping only the ones that still work.
Coverage is organised by category, from clothing and fashion and food and restaurants through to tech and electronics. Every offer lives on a store page, so you can see everything a single retailer is currently running in one place, along with its success rate and regional availability.
How a coupon code is verified
- 1An offer is tracked to its source: the retailer's own campaign page, promotional email or affiliate feed. Nothing is copied from another coupon site.
- 2The offer is dated. Every code on DealVault carries the day we last checked it and, where the merchant publishes one, its expiry.
- 3The code is tested at checkout. Codes that work are labelled verified; codes we cannot confirm are left unverified rather than presented as working.
- 4Shopper feedback is counted. Each store page shows a success rate based on how often visitors report that a code applied at checkout.
- 5Dead codes are removed. When a promotion ends, the offer is retired so the store page only carries what is currently live.
How to apply a promo code without losing the discount
- 1Open the store page and choose an offer. Codes and automatic sales are labelled separately, so you know whether you need to type anything.
- 2Copy the code from the offer, or note the discount if the sale is applied automatically at checkout.
- 3Continue through to the retailer's own site and add your items to the bag exactly as the offer describes.
- 4Paste the code into the promo code or voucher box at checkout. Most US retailers treat codes as case sensitive.
- 5Check the order total before you pay. If the discount did not appear, read the offer's exclusions before trying again.
Exclusions are the usual reason a valid code looks broken. A code may apply only to full-price items, exclude a named brand or gift cards, require a minimum spend, or be restricted to first-time customers, app orders or in-store collection. Loyalty prices work differently: joining a programme such as Target Circle, Nike Members or Kohl's Rewards takes a minute and applies automatically once you are signed in, which is why those perks are listed as deals rather than codes.
The US deal calendar: when the deepest discounts land
US retail discounts follow a predictable rhythm. Knowing the window in advance is most of the saving, because the same product is rarely at its lowest price outside it.
January
New Year clearance
Holiday stock is cleared out, so fashion, home and toy ranges see the deepest reductions of the year, commonly 50% to 70% off.
February
Presidents' Day
Furniture, mattresses and large appliances carry the biggest markdowns, alongside winter clothing clearances.
May
Memorial Day
Grills, patio furniture, outdoor gear and summer appliances start their season with their lowest prices.
July
Fourth of July
A second peak for mattresses, TVs and appliances, running alongside mid-summer clothing and shoe clearance.
August
Back to school
Laptops, tablets, kids' clothing and stationery lead, with verified student pricing on top at many retailers.
October
Halloween and the fall reset
Costumes, candy and décor peak in the middle of the month, then clear at their lowest prices in the final week. Autumn knitwear, boots and coats begin to discount.
November
Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday
The largest window of the year: televisions, laptops, headphones, toys and kitchen appliances run at their steepest discounts, usually spread across a full week rather than a single day.
December
Holiday gifting and after-Christmas
Beauty gift sets, jewellery and gift cards discount early in the month, then unsold gift stock is cleared from the day after Christmas.
Savings tips from our deals team
The habits that reliably lower a US shopping basket, straight from the people who check the codes.
Join the loyalty programme before your first order
Most large US retailers hand new members a first-order discount, free shipping and member-only prices. Signing up costs nothing and usually takes under a minute, but the discount is only applied once you are signed in.
How to apply: Create the account before you add anything to the bag, sign in, then paste any sitewide code at checkout on top of your member pricing.
Typical saving: 10% plus free shipping
Use the restaurant app for offers that never reach the website
Free-item deals, dollar menus and meal bundles at US fast-food chains are almost always app-exclusive. The same order placed at the counter or on the website costs full price.
How to apply: Install the chain's app, open the offers tab before you order, and load the deal to your account so it applies when you check out.
Typical saving: $5 to $15 per order
Verify your student or teacher status once
Apple, Samsung, adidas, Nike and most electronics retailers run verified education pricing all year, and it usually beats any public discount code. Verification is a one-off and then applies to every future order.
How to apply: Verify through the retailer's education store with your student email or ID, then shop while signed in to that account.
Typical saving: 10% to 15%
Stack a sitewide code with the clearance section
Sale pages and promo codes are usually separate systems, so a code often applies to items that are already reduced. Starting from the clearance section and applying the code afterwards is the single fastest way to a deep discount.
How to apply: Open the sale or outlet section first, add the reduced items, then paste the sitewide code in the promo box at checkout and check the total.
Typical saving: 20% to 30% on top of clearance
Wait a day after loading your basket
Many retailers email a first-order or basket reminder code within a day of you adding items and leaving. It costs nothing to wait, and the code can be applied to the same basket you already built.
How to apply: Add your items, sign in so the basket is saved against your email, then wait for the reminder email before completing checkout.
Typical saving: 10% to 15%
Time big-ticket tech to the seasonal clearance
Televisions, laptops, tablets and large appliances follow a fixed discount calendar rather than random sales, so the same model is far cheaper in the right week than a month earlier.
How to apply: Check the US deal calendar above, then buy in the matching window rather than at full price outside it.
Typical saving: 30% to 50% off list price
Frequently asked questions
Are the coupons on DealVault free to use?
Yes. Every code, sale and store perk on the site is free to browse and free to use. We do not charge shoppers, and you never need to enter payment details to see a deal.
Why did a promo code not work at checkout?
The most common causes are an expired code, a minimum spend you have not reached, an excluded brand or category, a requirement to be a new customer, or a code limited to the retailer's app or to in-store collection. Each offer lists its conditions, and the store page shows how often shoppers report the code applying.
How often are deals updated?
Offers are reviewed continuously and seasonal campaigns are refreshed as they launch. Every offer shows the date it was last checked, so you can see how current it is before you shop.
How does DealVault make money?
When you follow a link to a retailer and buy something, the retailer may pay us a small commission. This costs you nothing extra and does not change the price you pay. It is the only way the site is funded, and it is set out in full on our affiliate disclosure page.
Can I use more than one code on the same order?
Usually not. Most US retailers accept a single promo code per order, though a code can often be combined with a loyalty price, a clearance markdown or store credit because those are applied by the retailer rather than typed in.
